The houses

Some years ago, seeing that the Maramures built heritage is vanishing fast - many ancient wooden houses being demolished to make room for new, huge brick homes, we have decided to save two old houses, built by rare hand hewn oak wood beams.

The buildings are dated between the second half of 19 century and the year 1927 (according to an inscription carved on a log), and were previously owned by a lovely old farmer, respectively by a young inheritor who wanted to marry, and was shameful living in an 'out of fashion' house…

We have demolished the houses, transported them on our land and reconstructed there piece by piece, a technique used in the past in Maramures.

We have personally carried out the renovation work, using old ways and locally produced building materials, and the houses look already to be in perfect harmony with the environmental surroundings.

Even if Amizadil House is situated just 6 km away from Sighetu Marmatiei’s town centre, the place is actually a countryside corner surrounded by nature.
Guest area

On the property you are our only guest at a time, enjoying complete privacy, except if you are coming with your own companions.

You'll stay in the first house (about 110 sqm, maximum capacity: 6 people), which comprises: 1 double room with a king size bed and en-suite bathroom, a lounge and a terrace (downstairs) and: 1 apartment consisting in two rooms with twin beds and a bathroom (upstairs).

The appearance is simple, this is not luxury accommodation!; the house is furnished with antiques recovered from the region
and the rooms' walls, floors and ceilings are all-wood.

There is no TV, and the Wi-Fi signal is weak, so, you can spend more time reading, having direct contact with people, or, with the nature, doing a digital detox.

The phone signal strength is barely enough to call or to get some mobile data.

In the lounge you find a small library with books and maps about our country.
About us

We, your hosts, are a genuine local family, with roots going back to the 14 century, and with a belief in our connection with the ancestral land.

Adela works as custodian at the Sighetu’s Memorial museum, and Teo, - as private tour guide and author.

We live in the second house, where, in the dining room, we have dinner and breakfast together with you.

We believe in slow food movement. For cooking we use local products (meat, diary, eggs, honey, fruits and vegetables, produced by local farmers which we know for long time), preparing all meals, even the preserves and some drinks, supplying organic and natural as much as it possible.

We love to share information, to talk with our guests about the history, the uniqueness, the complexity and the beauty of Maramures and Romania.

Our tours intend to offer you special moments through multiple direct contacts with local farmers and craftsmen.

Believing in responsible and sustainable tourism, w
e and our house, food and tours, are trying to make you feel like home!

We are looking forward to share with you unforgettable cultural immersion experiences!
